Life since the bell, several threads running in parallel.
Just before Aleks's Ring-the-Bell day, his mum Ania was diagnosed with cancer. He's now looking after her at home, a quiet but profound role reversal.
The long-promised family holiday is paused while Mum focuses on her treatment. We're hoping to make it happen in October 2026, once she's through the worst of it.
Aleks is gradually reintegrating into school life after missing the whole of Year 1, catching up on lessons, friendships, and playtimes. Specialists expect this to be a two-year journey.
Aleks is working with medical physiotherapists, a dietitian, and specialist psychologists, rebuilding strength, nutrition, and emotional resilience after intensive treatment.
Quarterly MRI scans, blood tests, and additional checks at The Royal Marsden. This watchful follow-up phase will continue for two to five years.
Aleks has joined one of the leading studies into Ewing Sarcoma, helping researchers learn more about the disease and improve treatment for future young patients.
Aleks's dad has joined the rEECur Trial Steering Committee as a Patient Advocate, and the European Ewing Consortium patient advocacy group. Both roles help shape research into relapsed and refractory Ewing Sarcoma, so other families face a clearer path than ours did.
