Complex Surgery โ A Textbook Success! ๐

A precious moment captured in the hospital room โ Aleks resting in bed with his mum and dad by his side after the successful 10-hour surgery, showing his incredible spirit.
After completing 10 sessions (41 days) of one of the most intensive chemotherapy treatments available, on the 21st of July Aleks underwent major surgery to remove the remaining parts of "Grumpy Lumpy" ๐ฆ โ and he did brilliantly.
The procedure lasted 10 hours (rather than the expected 12+), involved over 15 world-class specialists from the Royal Brompton and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals, and had no complications. The teams encountered no surprises, and Aleks lost an impressively low amount of blood. In their words, it was a textbook operation โ something almost unheard of in such rare and complex procedures (about 1 to 4 cases in the UK per year).
Most importantly, while we are still waiting for final lab confirmation, the surgical team believes the entire tumour has been removed. If confirmed, this would mean Aleks is now cancer free โ a monumental milestone ๐ฏ
But his journey is far from over. Ewing Sarcoma is a rare and a very aggressive cancer, and Aleks's fight extends well beyond this initial recovery. More treatment lies ahead.
Please continue to keep Aleks in your thoughts as he prepares for this next chapter โค๏ธ
PS. Amazingly, Aleks was woken up in theatre and was already chatting with the team โ tired but alert, asking for his daddyโฆ and the doughnuts he'd been promised! ๐ฉ
Together, we are TeamAleks!
