In mid-May, the grassroots football community came together in the most wonderful way. Youth team coaches from FC Elmstead and Baldon Sports met at The Oaks, Baldon Sports' home ground, for a charity match in support of Aleks and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

🤝 Community Coming Together

What started as an idea quickly became a reality thanks to the dedication of Mark Ede and the incredible hospitality of Marc Dolby, Baldon Sports Chairman. Marc provided a brilliant platform for the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly and that the focus remained firmly on fundraising and community spirit.

The atmosphere on the day was electric. Coaches who usually spend their weekends teaching youngsters the beautiful game were now lacing up their boots and taking to the pitch themselves – all for a cause close to everyone's hearts.

⚽ A Match to Remember

The game itself was competitive, entertaining, and played in exactly the right spirit. There were crunching tackles, spectacular saves, and plenty of goals. But more importantly, there was laughter, camaraderie, and an overwhelming sense of togetherness.

For Aleks, being at the centre of such an event was magical. Watching him run onto the pitch, kick the ball around, and be surrounded by so many people who came out to support him – those are memories our family will treasure forever.

📸 Capturing the Day

We owe a huge thank you to local photographer Verity McGuire, who kindly donated her time to capture the event. Her wonderful photographs tell the story of the day far better than words ever could – the competitive spirit, the joyful moments, and the sense of community that made this event so special.

💙 Our Heartfelt Thanks

To everyone who made this event possible – thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Marc Dolby – for being such a wonderful host and providing the perfect venue for this special day.

Mark Ede – for your tireless work in organising and coordinating everything.

Verity McGuire – for capturing these precious memories so beautifully.

All the coaches from FC Elmstead and Baldon Sports – for giving up your time, putting on your boots, and playing your hearts out.

And to everyone who came along, cheered from the sidelines, and contributed to the fundraising – you've shown us what community truly means.

This is what makes grassroots football so special. It's not just about the game – it's about the people, the connections, and the way everyone rallies together when it matters most.

Thank you all. 💛
